How do I change the Wi-Fi channel of my Internet modem?

The presence of other Wi-Fi networks may slow down your connection. If this is the case, you can change the Wi-Fi channel of your modem. To do so, follow the steps below.

To open the configuration panel, click on this link (or this link if your modem is connected on a router).

Changing the frequency range of your modem is quite easy but depends on your modem model.

A) You have a Netgear modem

1

Connect your computer to your Wi-Fi network. This article explains how to do that.

2

Click on this link (or this link if your modem is connected on a router). An internet page is displayed. Enter "voo" (small letters) as user name and your password (capitals).

If you have forgotten the password of your Wi-Fi network and you wish to change it, connect your computer to your modem with an Ethernet cable and switch off your computer’s Wi-Fi.

2

Click on this link. A window is displayed. Enter "voo" (small letters) as user name and your password (capitals).

3

Click on "Configure your modem".

4

Click on "wifi".

5

Click on “Detecting the Wireless Access points” to find out which Wi-Fi channel to choose to boost your connection speed.

7

A window is displayed showing all the wireless networks near your modem. Look at the “channel” column to find out which channels are used by it.

You then need to select a channel that is not present in this column and that is therefore not used. For example, for this network, any channel but the 6 or 11 must be selected.

8

In the “Channel” field, select a free channel. Then click on “Apply” and test whether your connection is faster.

Congratulations! You now know how to change the channel of your Wi-Fi network!

Remark: For your 5G network, do not touch anything and leave the channel on automatic! Simply click on “apply” to launch an automatic best channel search.
